1
Prepare a light seed-starting mix
Combine coco peat, well-rotted cow dung compost, and coarse sand in a 2:1:1 ratio. Fill seed trays or repurposed containers with drainage holes.
2
Sow shallow and keep consistently moist
Press seeds 0.5 cm into the mix, cover lightly, and mist twice daily. Germination begins in 6-10 days at 22-28°C.
3
Harden off before transplanting
Once seedlings show 2 true leaves, expose them to direct sun for a few hours a day over a week before moving to grow bags or open beds.
4
Stake early and feed with Jeevamrutha
Support vines with bamboo stakes at transplant time and feed diluted Jeevamrutha every 10-15 days through flowering and fruiting.
Agronomist Tips
- Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 4 hours before sowing to speed up germination.
- Rotate tomato beds each season to avoid soil-borne wilt.
- Companion plant with marigold to deter root-knot nematodes.
